NottsOutdoors is a new site for Nottinghamshire County council. They provide outdoor learning opportunities for young people in Nottinghamshire by working with schools, colleges, youth groups, employers to enhance the lives of young people.

The service required a rebrand of their identity. The existing site consisted of a large section of text heavy pages within the Council website, difficult to find or promote. They were looking to promote their service better and showcase their offering to the public through a more visually responsive website, showcasing the host of activities available and the possibility to book trips targeted at their users.

The users for the site were clearly identified as people who would be looking at activities with the intention to book day trips or longer trips. Primarily we were looking at Teachers in schools who use the existing site to book activities for their classes. Other users were Parents of children who would have the ability to book activity days out.

My role consisted of designing the site and building pages through the existing CMS that was being used. Having multiple meetings with the service, I presented initial wireframes and possible design routes. After discussions with teachers and parents, we determined different user flows and possible user journies that could be taken. Using Adobe Illustrator/XD I designed multiple wireframes illustrating user flow alongside Adobe Photoshop visuals and HTML Responsive web build.

The current method of booking an activity would involve callng a contact number at a Centre and book everything over the phone. This proved to be quite difficult and time consuming for users. This was always going to be changed and a third party system was purchased that would be able to handle the booking process.

Naturally, the third party booking system pages would need to reflect the new look of the site as currently the initial booking pages looked quite stark and plain. Ongoing discussions and sending through design work and css styling would keep a consistent look that would be retained between the main site and booking system.
